Environmental Science Lesson (Submitted by Mrs. Knudson)

Last week, the Environmental Science class learned about the water we drink by using a sand-tank groundwater model provided to the district by UW-Stevens Point. With this model, students were able to simulate the flow of groundwater in a watershed to learn where it comes from and where it flows to. They were also able to observe the water table and how it changes with different scenarios, as well as the effects of pollution from common sources such as landfills and runoff. Through this hands-on activity, students gained a better understanding of the water cycle, importance and function of groundwater, and where the water from their faucet really comes from.
