Middle School Back-to-School Night Cookout

On Friday (9-25), middle school parents and students were invited to a cookout during the two hours leading up to the Homecoming football game. Students danced, talked at picnic tables, and played games. Parents were able to eat and visit with each other and teachers as well. Students could then get into the game at a reduced cost. Look we look to improve upon it for next year!

Middle School Market Days (Mr. Gentilli)

The 7th Grade Market Days began on Thursday (9-24). Students are learning the basics of a market economy by creating their own products, setting a price, marketing them, and developing advertising. They will have four markets between now and October 15th, each during their 4th block class.

Thursday Night Pep Rally

When the pep rally had ended last night (9-24), a new staff member remarked, "This was the most positive pep assembly I've ever been at." It was a great time- capped by the crowning of the the Homecoming King and Queen- Reese Denure and Lauren Severson.
Another relatively new tradition is the "Sing with the Band" feature to end the pep rally. Thanks to Bob Gentilli for catching this scene from the stands!
Mrs. Tretow also incorporated a new game into the night's competition: "Hungry Hippo." It looks like it will become a staple of the Homecoming Games!
Come on out to the parade today at 2:30pm and the Homecoming Dance's Grand March on Saturday night (9-26) at 9pm in the high school gym.

Homecoming Week's Night Events

Monday night's Powder Puff games featured sudden death overtime drama and a 3-Peat victory by the Class of '17 (Juniors).
The freshmen class prepares for their first Powder Puff experience.
Belleville had a great turnout for Scoopie on Wednesday in the backyard of our Homecoming opponent, New Glarus. Culver's staff said that a "good" Scoopie Night draws $3,000 in sales. Belleville came out to $4,000 worth of sales that night (with 10% coming back to the school)! Thank you for the support you provided. You could certainly feel the pride. It was a great day to be a Wildcat!

Homecoming Games!

Belleville High School incorporates Homecoming games into the week each day at lunch. The schedule for the week is as follows:
Monday - Steal the Stick
Tuesday - Tug-o-War
Wednesday - Dodgeball
Thursday - Volleyball
There are no lunch games on Friday because of the parade early release.
An impromptu staff team did not fair too well in the Tug-of-War competition yesterday, as evidenced by the video below.

P.A.R.T.Y.

Belleville High School's freshmen students attended a P.A.R.T.Y. presentation in Monroe yesterday (9-22). P.A.R.T.Y. is a program to Prevent Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth. The students heard from speakers that had been involved in deaths and accidents involving alcohol. The field trip was a part of Mrs. Tretow's 9th grade Health class.

Fine Arts Weekend

Two Belleville High School sophomores and Mrs. Walejko attended Fine Arts Weekend 2015 at American Players Theatre on September 18 and 19. Taylor Vesperman and Eliza Woods participated in workshops led by APT actors, took a backstage tour of the APT theaters, costume shop, and rehearsal spaces, and attended two plays, Merry Wives of Windsor and Pride and Prejudice.

English Students Visit the American Players Theatre (Submitted by Mrs. Alsteens)

On September 18, Mrs. Miller's newly added Shakespeare class (and other interested students) traveled to Spring Green to see the American Players Theatre's performance of William Shakespeare's play The Merry Wives of Windsor.  We were very excited to watch a comedy this year and were entertained the entire time. Our students gained many valuable insights to how professional actors work together to perform their best. It was a great day indeed!

Honor Flight Participants

Thank you to our high school choir students that traveled to the Dane County Airport on Saturday morning (9-12) at 5am to sing for veterans flying to Washington, D.C. for the day as part of the Badger Honor Flight. Thanks as well to over 20 middle school students that were there that evening at 8pm to welcome our veterans home. They made signs and stayed until all 100 veterans (10 of them from World War II) came through the airport. The veterans certainly appreciated your support!
UPDATE: A Korean War veteran and Honor Flight participant visited the Middle School on 9-15.

FFA Career Development Event (Submitted by Mrs. Knudson)

On Friday, September 11, FFA members competed in the River Ridge FFA Career Development Events.  This contest hosts students from around southern and southwestern Wisconsin to judge dairy and livestock animals at local farms.  All of our Belleville FFA members participated in the Dairy contests.  For this contest, they judged and placed 8 different classes of cows.  Our senior dairy team was made up of Adam Laufenberg, Dan Meier, and Tony O'Connor.  Our two junior dairy teams were comprised of Dalton Fahey, Devin Brown, Nick Fahey, Coltyn Winkers, Jorden Roelke, and Eric O'Connor.  The results and final scores are not in yet, but they all had a good day!

Low Ropes Field Trip for 7th Graders

On Tuesday, September 15, the 7th graders from Belleville Middle School will be traveling to Bethel Horizons to participate in low-ropes and challenge courses.  Located just south of Dodgeville, Bethel Horizons is a great opportunity for students to learn about themselves and others while participating in mental and physical challenges throughout the day.  Students are expected to wear clothing that is comfortable and appropriate for the outdoor environment.  Students will be leaving around 8:30am and returning around 3:00pm.  Go to the following website to see the events that students will participate in:

Minor Renovation Complete

Seating was added across from the new school store, the Catty Shack, just outside of the high school library. With the location of the school store, seating was lost in the "Nevada" area. The step seats allow the students to gather before and after school and at lunch. It also provides additional seating during performances in the auditorium and during closed sessions of school board meetings. The plaques that were taken down from the Nevada area will be put back up soon. This new seating area will also serve as a great place to take group pictures with the two tiers of steps. Come check it out at the high school's Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 9th.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!

The first day of school is like the Super Bowl for educators. There is a lot of planning and preparation that go into it.
The students were greeted today by a Wildcat Tailgate. They were provided with food (fruit, granola bars, yogurt, milk, etc.) and encouraged to play games and enjoy time with friends that they may not have seen as much over the summer.
Former Belleville graduate "Jackson" from Q106 hosted the radio station's morning show from the parking lot. He interviewed students and staff, including his favorite teacher- Frau Brown. Check more photos on their website: http://www.q106.com/q106-morning-show/
We are very excited to start the new school year. Thank you for the opportunity and trust that you have in us to work with your children!
