Belleville Noted for Rise in English-Language Arts Scores

Despite the title of this morning's Wisconsin State Journal article "English, math skills slipping," the School District of Belleville was noted for huge gains in English-Language Arts (ELA) this past year. "Belleville posted some of the highest gains in English/language arts, increasing by about 22 and 23 percentage points in the fourth and eighth grades..."

As you can see in the tables below, Belleville had the second highest 7th grade ELA scores in the county, behind Deerfield. Belleville's 8th graders had the fourth highest ELA scores in Dane County, with proficiency scores rising over 20 percentage points from the previous year.

Belleville High School's ELA scores on the ACT ranked second in the county, trailing only Middleton-Cross Plains.

In addition, class average scores (for 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th grades) for all content areas (ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies) were at least six points above the state average.

Congratulations to our students and staff! Our system-wide approach is working, and our focus on literacy is producing results!
