The primary goal of the Medical Terminology course is for our students to accurately use the language of medicine when communicating verbally and in writing. We have spent time focused on the language rules, components and meanings, word division, and word analysis to create a definition of a term. Like a geographical map organizes land and locations, the map of the human body includes things like cells, tissues, organs, body systems, anatomical planes and positions, body cavities, and abdominal quadrants and regions, which allow the health care team to point to specific areas of the body.
On Friday (9-27), the students demonstrated understanding of the body's organization by making play-doh models, labeling them accurately, and answering questions related to them with their work partner and to the instructor during the table visit.
Belleville High School maintains a dual-credit agreement with Madison College to offer their three credit course to juniors and seniors. Students considering a Medical/Health Career will want to seriously consider taking this course. It is especially beneficial if the student plans to take Anatomy & Physiology at the same time.
