DECA Sports & Entertainment Marketing Conference

On Thursday, February 27, ten DECA students traveled to Green Bay to attend the DECA Sports and Entertainment Marketing Conference. The conference included tours of both Lambeau Field and the Resch Center. The students also had the opportunity to listen to many industry leaders talk about their roles and how to break into the sports and entertainment marketing field.

Mr. Farrar continues to find opportunities to engage his Business Education students in real-world applications and scenarios!

8th Grade Lock-in

Starting on Friday night and running into Saturday morning, Belleville Middle School staffed hosted an all-night lock-in for the 8th grade class. From 8:00pm to 5:30am, students took part in:

• an open gym with cooperative games, volleyball, and dodgeball.
• a scavenger hunt.
• a Nerf version of Capture-the-Flag.
• a movie in the auditorium.
• pizza and ice cream throughout the night.

It was a wonderful way to make memories for this class that is already bonded so tightly together!

Thanks to Mr. Gentilli, Mrs. Schultz, Mr. Serum, Mr. Webber, Mrs. Swenson, Ms. Whitmore, and Mr. Jacobs for chaperoning throughout the night.

Forensics Sub-district Results

On Wednesday, February 19, the Belleville High School Forensics team competed at the sub-district meet at Monona Grove. Based on their performance, the entire Wildcat Forensics team (20 entries) will advance to the district meet on March 24.

Kohl Scholarship Winner: Mitchell Mussehl

On Friday, February 14, Belleville High School senior Mitch Mussehl was notified that he had received a 2020 Herb Kohl Student Excellence Scholarship. This is a $10,000 scholarship based on academics, leadership, citizenship, and school & community involvement. He was one of just 12 winners in our CESA to receive this award!

Mitch will join other Herb Kohl Student Excellence Scholarship, Student Initiative Scholarship, Teacher Fellowship, and Principal Leadership award recipients at a luncheon on May 16 in Baraboo.

Congratulations to Mitch on this honor in recognition for all of his hard work up to this point!

Spreading Science Olympiad to the Middle School

On Saturday, February 15, Coach Smith took her middle school Science Olympiad team to Boyceville for a regional tournament. The BMS team took 8th out of 18 teams, as they prepare to be contributors to the high school team. Medals went to:

2nd Place: Circuit Lab - Isaac Erb and Isaac Russow

3rd Place: Geocaching - Ben Johnson and Reid Nolden

3rd Place: Horticulture - Skyler Beyer and Liam Daugherty

4th Place: Disease Detectives - Skyler Beyer and Ella Blask 

4th Place: Experimental Design - Ella Blask, Isaac Erb, and Elizabeth Lloyd

Meanwhile, a select squad of the high school team traveled to Loyola (IL) to participate in a tournament (as a make-up for an earlier cancellation). Carson Heller and Logan Niesen won in Gravity Vehicle, and Logan and Hansi Bartle won again in Wright Stuff. They found a strong level of competition in Illinois that will help prepare them on their run to state.

The Middle School Joins the High School Pep Band

How about this for ingenuity? 

Not being able to find a suitable lyre (a small clip that attaches to a musical instrument to hold sheet music) for his baritone horn, 8th grader Ben Remy took it upon himself to equip his horn with two sets of string attached to the horn's bell. He worked on this industriously on Tuesday in preparation for 8th Grade Pep Band Night. Ben joined 28 other 8th graders who played at the girls' home basketball game on February 11.

We can't wait to see what this group can do when they fully joint the BHS band next year!

Both Belleville Middle and High Schools broke up the monotony of February with Winter Week. Students participated in dress-up days and played games at lunch time. Check out some of the school spirit scenes within the last few days!

High School Students-of-the-Month for January

On Thursday, January 13, Belleville High School staff recognized Students-of-the-Month from January. Each department is able to nominate a student. Students are treated to a pizza lunch and receive movie passes courtesy of Marcus Theaters. In their personalized certificates, teachers noted that this month's nominees are model students who lead with their actions in the classroom. Congratulations to these Wildcats who have started the new semester out strong!

Wisconsin Adirondack Chair Production in Technology Education

Mr. Neumann's Trades students are putting their design skills to great use and taking advantage of the state-of-the-art equipment at their disposal in creating Wisconsin-inspired Adirondack chairs. Career Spotlight: Matteo Latorre and Mitch Mussehl

A Guide to STUFF magazine is produced by BizTimes Media in Milwaukee. Their "Made and Built in South Central Wisconsin 2020" edition features two Belleville High School seniors in the CAREER SPOTLIGHT section. Both Matteo Latorre and Mitchell Mussehl are featured on page 20 of the magazine for their participation in the Youth Apprenticeship program. They represent two different career pathways- Engineering and Health Sciences. Matteo is currently working at Federal Industries, while Mitch is working at Walgreens. Congratulations to these two Wildcats for representing Belleville High School and Mrs. Gartley's School-to-Career program so well!

Kicking Off Winter Week

On Friday night (2-7), Belleville Middle and High Schools kicked off the start of Winter Week with a middle school dance in the Literacy Lounge. Next week will include dress-up days (see the listings below), as well as lunchtime games. We hope to bring some Wildcat energy to to winter season!

Middle School Students-of-the-Month

On Friday, February 7, Belleville Middle School staff recognized their Students-of-the-Month from January. Students met by grade level to see their peers recognized and then nominated students had the opportunity to put their handprints up in the middle school's Literacy Lounge. Associate Principal Heather Schmitz then hosted a breakfast for this month's students. January's Students-of-the-Month also received Catty Shack bucks for the school store. Congratulations to these Wildcats, representing their school proudly in the new year!

Forensics Capitol Conference Results

The Belleville High School Forensics Team traveled to Lake Mills High School on Monday, February 3, to participate in the Capitol Conference Forensics Meet. Nearly all of the Wildcats on the team received a ribbon for their efforts.

Skyler Beyer received a 2nd all-conference medal in Public Address.

More Science Olympiad Success

On Saturday, February 1, Belleville High School's Science Olympiad Team competed in the regional competition at Edgewood High School. The Wildcats placed 2nd overall competing against top-notch competition from 14 other schools that included Argyle, Cambridge, Edgewood, Madison Country Day, Madison LaFollette, Madison Memorial, Madison West, Marshall, Monona Grove, Mount Horeb, Oregon, Platteville, Sun Prairie, and Waunakee.
